tap tap to a bit of Irish dance

Image

Last month I had the great opportunity to work for the second time with a very talented Irish dance dancer and teacher, Mary – Beth Taylor, for the creation of her second Irish dance teaching DVD. First time we got to work together was last August in her first teaching DVD where you can have a small preview here:

This was the first time that I got to experience a bit of Irish dancing so close so I have to admit that it was truly exciting!

{Mary Beth and her class in action}

For the first DVD we chose natural and earthy tones keeping always the red lipstick that Mary-Beth loves, adding that beautiful glow with the see-through loose Bourjouis powder. {Bourjouis loose powder}

This years DVD is still in the making so I can only share with you the trial and backstage shots.

Summer is here!

One thing is sure when living in Ireland…. You can never trust the weather!

{A typical summer day…. it could even be a typical winter day}

You will never know when a summer day will come… but when the calendar hits June you now that your summer spirit should be here!

The summer is in our heart and if we feel that a summer look is the way then we must go for it and not let it depend on the weather, just wear a few more layers of summer clothing and you will be fine!! :-)

My look today is inspired by the colours of the Greek sea! Green and blues!

Having booked my tickets for my summer holiday I am mentally preparing myself for it by playing around with different summer make up looks.

{Getting ready for my Sunday coffee}

{Make up all done and accessorizes picked}

…for your eyes only

My readers have recently been very proactive asking me a lot of interesting questions about make up, tools, techniques which is making me extremely happy. You know that is always my pleasure to answer them so please feel free to ask either on my facebook page or here on the blog.

This time the question was about eye shadows creasing. How do we make the eyeshadow last longer and how do we prevent the eye shadow to crease?? All these will be answered below.

Eye shadow creasing after wearing it for 5 hours

I have a few good tips on this one so get ready.

The factors that lead to having the creasing result can vary – starting from the quality of the eye shadow, the skin texture, the weather and even the climate. So don’t blame your skin as you would usually do.

So what can we do to prevent this from happening. Many of you make up geeks would say primer, and this answer is correct! I have to say though that the eye primer is different to the one used for the face. The one we use for the whole face can be a bit heavy and rich for the sensitive and thin skin of the eyes.

Low cost solutions (from your make up bag)

1.Using your own make up could be a low cost solution as you wouldn’t have to spend on buying new products

2. Replacing your creamy eye shadows with powder based eye shadows

3. Using concealer on your eyelid and then applying your eye shadow

The above solutions I would say that are more traditional and would definitely not cost you much. However if you are really looking for a product that would solve this for ever get your pen and paper and take notes.

1. Inglot Eye make up base

Using an eye make up base will definitely prevent your eyeshadow to crease and I have to say that the make up base from Inglot it is a very good one to use. I have used it and I was very pleased with it.

2. Lemon aid – Benefit

Benefit has a very beautiful eye base primer which I would highly recommend as it prepares the skin for your eye shadow.

When you use them please let me know how you got on.

Affordable foundation – Review

Foundations for less than 10 euros

Makeupartistas reviews foundations to find the best just for you.

I was recently asked from one of my readers to write a review about foundations in terms of coverage, price, quality, texture and of course variety of shades. So I decided that I will be reviewing affordable brands that most of younger women are happy to pay while being cautious on their spending.

Essence stay all day

Rate: 4/10

What I loved: The price – 4.09 euros

What I didn’t like: Limited shades

The good thing about this product is it’s price, you can find it in different retailers for only 4.09 euros which is a big plus. The shades available are very limited and unless your skin tone fits to under IVORY, LIGHT BEIGE or SAND then look for another brand.

When trying it on I found it’s texture very heavy and rich for my liking. On the other hand this means that it can give a good coverage especially if your skin is pron to spots and redness. It’s finish is velvety but you have to make sure that you blend it well as it’s thick texture can leave you looking that you are wearing too much of it.

Catrice Cosmetic

Rate: 5/10

What I loved: The price – 6.99 euros

What I didn’t like: Heavy texture

A really good priced product offering a larger range in terms of shades, good for yellow or pink based skin with a matte velvet finish. If you prefer to have a more natural look this is not the product that offers it. It’s texture is very rich and I could even consider it heavy. Good if you need coverage.

NYC (New York Colour)

Rate: 6/10

What I loved: The price – 3.99 euros

What I didn’t like: Finish result

In the same “less than 10 euros” category this foundation with 6 different shades is able to accommodate even the whitest skin. I was happy with its texture as it was very light and thin but you need to blend it well as it is not as smooth and it may seem to leave lines if not applied well. So blend well with either a brush or your fingers.

RIMMEL

With RIMMEL I reviewed 3 of their products.

RIMMEL lASTING FINISH 2

RIMMEL MATCH PERFECTION

Rate: 8/10

What I loved: Light Texture

What I didn’t like: I have to say I was pleased with both of them

I found both of these products very good and especially loved their prices for 8,85 euros each. You get a good foundation with light texture, very easy to apply as it blends very well even with your fingers and gives you a very natural look. One pump is just enough for all the face. If you need coverage then these products would not be very helpful to you as the texture is very light, but with a highlighter you get an even better result.

RIMMEL WAKE ME UP

Rate: 7,5/10

What I loved: Good coverage

What I didn’t like: Heavy texture and a bit dry

For just 6.95 euros you can get a good quality foundation that gives you good coverage, it comes in 6 different shades and its IVORY shade can accommodate even the whitest Irish skin.  I found its texture a bit heavy for my taste and a bit dry. Make sure you moisturize well before hand to achieve a smoother finish.

I hope you found this post useful, always here to answer your questions

In my make up bag

I have always been asked by friends about the products that I like using, so today I am letting you have a small sneak peak  :-)

eye shadows and blusher

I have a great variety of eye shadows, blushers and of course lipsticks!!

My eye – shadows usually vary from MAC, Crown Brushes, Bourjouis, Body Shop and Lancome. I usually tend to have my basic colours, such as pastel beige and natural tones and of course my different shades of brown for a natural day look. I love a clean and natural look and I always go for a pastel pink or a pastel beige with a combination of matte brown eye shadow in the mornings. Matte eye shadows are easy to use and they are back! We don’t need too much shine and bling when we are working hard!

For night time we are aloud to go all wild and when I feel like it I tend to do that, it’s my time to shine! ;-)

When it comes down to my blushers I am a fan of Crown brushes and BOBBI BROWN!

My beautiful blushers

I have a quite fair skin, (all my friends will care to prove it, I don’t tan easily, and I always have to be careful with sun) this is why I tend to go for blusher that last and add some colour to cute little face.

These blushers do tend to last, especially when working long days and reapplying your make up is luxury!  Although I always suggest re- applying our make up but some time it is very difficult to do so. I have been through difficult days as such, when having lunch is a luxury not thinking about your blusher! anyways…

I tend to go for pink shades such as the famous healthy pink, (this name does not exist on a blusher at least I haven’t come across it, if you have please let me know) I just call it like that because whenever I wear it I have that healthy glow of a 5 years old! Healthy pink is the second blusher on the left on the top row. I love it.

In my hand bag I usually carry my concealer and by blusher, and especially during summer time I love wearing my favourite BOBBI BROWN blusher: pale pink.

in my hand bag

My lipsticks vary, from MAC, Bourjouis, Max factor, Maybiline, Lancome, Estee Lauder, and I love subtle colours and reds

my lipsticks

I hope that helped you a bit.

You don’t need quantity you just need variety!
